5th Annual Music Camp is June 18-22, 2018

 300 S 5th Street in Atchison, Kansas

The mission of the annual Music Camp held at historic Trinity Episcopal Church in Atchison is to give young people entering grades 4-12 the opportunity to expand their musical skills and appreciation, as well as grow in faith.  The 2018 camp will be held from Monday, June 18ththrough Friday, June 22nd, from 9:30am to 2:30pm daily.  The camp includes daily lunch, t-shirts, singing, music composition, enrichment activities and an Evensong and Banquet for campers and their families at 5:30pm on Friday, June 22nd.  The camp attendees also have the opportunity to sing for a service of celebration on Sunday, June 24th, presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas.

The camp is directed by Jennifer Stammers, Choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Church.  In addition to her 23 years at Trinity, Ms. Stammers has been a music teacher at the elementary and middle school levels for 17 years.  Her audition children’s choirs have performed for the Missouri Music Educators Association Annual Conference, for the Missouri Verses and Voices Poet Laureate Festivals at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City, and at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.  She is also the Artistic Director of the St. Joseph Community Chorus, an 80 voice semi-professional choir. She has received numerous awards, including the 2013-14 Teacher of the Year for Platte County R3 in Missouri, finalist for the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year for the St. Joseph, Missouri School District, and Resolution No. 2598 from the Missouri House of Representatives.  She has taught private voice lessons for 23 years and is a published composer with the St. James Music Press in Tryon, North Carolina.

The camp organist is Janet McCracken.  She has served as an organist for 43 years in three different churches, the last 33 years at Trinity.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business with a minor in Music Theory from Avila University in Kansas City.  While acquiring her degree, she taught piano on campus and was the music department’s accompanist.  Janet received a Master’s Degree in Education from Kansas State University.  She studied pipe organ for over 20 years with Dr. Ruth Krusemark of Benedictine College.  During this time, she performed in numerous recitals and was chosen to be the accompanist for Atchison’s River Bend Concert Choir.  In 1999, Janet passed a service playing certification test administered by the American Guild of Organists.  The examination was in Kansas City and judged by a board of organist from New York City.  Janet demonstrated numerous skills at the pipe organ as well as presenting a 45 minute recital composed of required organ literature.  Janet was the only Kansan that year to receive this award.
